A false Facebook account in the name of Udupi's Police Superintendent has been detected. The account has reportedly been used to contact the public for illicit purposes. The SP, Hariram Shankar, stated that people should not respond to messages received from such accounts and only follow the official account "SP Udupi." He further advised that when the public detects such accounts, they must report them to Facebook.com or to the nearest police station.

State's Women and Child Development Minister and Udupi district-in-charge minister Laxmi Hebbalkar inaugurated a new Akka Café at Malpe Beach here on Saturday. The café was opened as part of the Sanjeevini scheme under the National Rural Livelihood Mission in collaboration with the Udupi District Panchayat. It will be operated by an NGO based in Kalianpur and will be completely managed by women workers.

Mangaluru: Ongoing tensions in West Asia are beginning to affect families working in Gulf countries, with several students returning to Dakshina Kannada and seeking admissions in local schools. School authorities in the region say they have noticed a gradual increase in enquiries from parents shifting their children back to their hometowns due to uncertainty abroad. Anthony Joseph, associate director of The Yenepoya School, said the institution has already admitted a few students who were previously studying in Gulf countries. He added that some parents who had plans to relocate abroad are now reconsidering their decisions because of the current situation. Educational institutions expect the number of admissions to rise further in the coming weeks, especially after the academic year in Gulf countries concludes by late June or early July. School representatives also noted that a similar trend was observed during the Covid-19 period, when many families returned to India temporarily for education and safety reasons.

Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar has laid the foundation stone for ‘Samarthya Vana’, a specialized park for differently-abled children at Brahmagiri, Udupi. Built at a cost of ₹4.9 crore, the facility will feature therapy swings, sensory pathways, and musical instruments to support children with 21 types of disabilities. This first-of-its-kind model aims to provide a safe, inclusive social space and therapeutic rehabilitation for over 1,200 special children in the district.
