Cash Rewards Announced for Reporting Littering in Karkala Villages

In an innovative move to enforce public cleanliness, the Palli and Sanur Gram Panchayats in Karkala taluk have introduced a cash reward of ₹2,000 for citizens who provide information about individuals dumping waste in public spaces. Authorities are encouraging residents to submit evidence such as photos, videos, or eyewitness accounts to report offenders. Key Details of the Initiative: Reward Amount: ₹2,000 for verified information on illegal dumping. Immediate Fines: Violators caught dumping waste will be fined ₹1,000 immediately, following directives from the Zilla Panchayat CEO. Local Action: In a similar crackdown, the Miyar Gram Panchayat has already identified and fined an individual ₹1,000 for waste disposal violations. Broad Enforcement: The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO has recently instructed all taluk and gram panchayat officers to file FIRs against offenders who fail to pay littering fines. This initiative follows a successful model previously seen in other regions like Kuppepadavu, where rewarding "informers" led to a drastic reduction in illegal roadside "black spots"
